The Minority Leader in Parliament, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has assured the leadership, rank and file of the New Patriotic Party of his side’s determination to ensure that the caucus rallies behind whoever the party elects as its presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
In a one-on-one interview with celebrated media personality, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, on his popular KSM Show, the leader of the minority emphasized that he is leading a stronger parliamentary base to support whoever is elected flagbearer of the NPP to ensure victory in 2028.
“As the leader in Parliament, everything is on my shoulders, and for that matter, whoever wins the flagbearership race will have a strong NPP parliamentary caucus supporting him for victory in the 2028 presidential elections” he assured. According to him, unity is key in winning the elections and he and his team in Parliament will be united behind the winner of the party’s presidential contest.
The Effutu Member of Parliament admitted that though the party is likely going to face some upheavals, the storm would be weathered to enable it go into 2028 with unity which would ultimately lead to the party winning the elections.
“There will likely be turbulence in the party when Professor Mike Oquaye’s review committee releases its report, and we shall face a similar challenge during the internal contests, but we shall prevail” he stated.
On why he ‘stretched’ some Mahama appointees who appeared before the Appointment Committee, the Minority Leader indicated that Sam Nartey George in particular had chosen to stand by all the false narratives and posts he made against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and expected him to admit to his factual inaccuracies.
“If you keep pounding Akufo-Addo without facts and respect, as a leader of the Minority, I would not have that” the leader of the mighty Minority stressed.
When asked why Akufo-Addo wasn’t successful in the fight against illegal mining activities as he pledged, Afenyo-Markin said that the fight was not supported by other political parties, and that led to them using it against the NPP in the 2020 elections, a situation he said caused the party to lose almost all the seats in all the mining areas.
The interview was held on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at KSM’s residence at Aburi in the Eastern Region.
