THE MAHAMA GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO RUN AWAY FROM THE REAL ISSUES RAISED BY REV. NTIM FORDJUOR

There appears to be deliberate attempts by the Mahama administration to obfuscate the real issues underpinning the matters raised by Rev. Ntim Fordjuor.

For some grotesque reasons, government’s functionaries have made strenuous efforts to dwarf the very and salient matters raised by the NPP MP as they have focused on whether some cocaines left the country or not and through which means.

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, asked government to allow the security agencies to provide a briefing to Parliament on investigations being conducted into high profile reported incidents, which are considered “serious” and are of great public interest.

In a letter dated April 2, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, the Assin South Member of Parliament urged the committee to summon the security agencies – the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to appear before Parliament on April 7.

The letter outlined the need for a briefing on three critical incidents.
The first involved a National Security-led operation on February 9, 2025, in Sapeiman, which resulted in the discovery of twelve 20-foot containers filled with gold bars and various currencies.

The second focused on two significant cocaine seizures in March, with a combined value of $470 million.

The third is on two flights, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, that landed at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria on March 12 and March 20, respectively, and reportedly departed on March 25.

Rev Fordjour’s request underscored the urgency of the investigations, emphasising the need for security agencies to provide clarity on these matters.

He also noted that the Defence and Interior Committee would offer relevant information to support the agencies’ investigative efforts.

These were the key ingredients of his letter to the Chairman of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament. They were straightforward requests which could have been responded to by the government without all the drama surrounding it.

If there’s nothing to hide by the named state actors, why then would Felix Kwakye Ofosu and his gang engage in these needless pushbacks against the requests?

Why couldn’t these be responded to by the security agencies mentioned in Ntim Fordjuor’s letter? He only asked for a sunshine to be brought on the cocaines and other items seized by the security agencies.

It was a simple exercise of inviting the NIB and other respective agencies to address the issues by telling us what have happened to the investigations. People were arrested, who were they? What have happened to those people? Where are the substances seized from them?

If there’s no scheme to hide the truth from us, why would Felix Kwakye Ofosu and his apologists try everything humanly possible to divert attention from the real issues raised by the MP?

The gravamen of the MP’s issues should not be allowed to be ignored by the government and its communicators. We require answers to the whereabouts of the busted cocaine and other items.
