Ghana’s Judiciary is being thrown into a maelstrom of political upheaval, thanks to President John Dramani Mahama’s overzealous efforts to satisfy Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, JSC, for a ‘debt’ he owes him since the 2012 elections’ petition.
Unable to land the topmost portfolio in the Judiciary, Baffoe-Bonnie’s insatiable desire to land the Chief Justice’s role has been topmost on Mahama’s agenda as far back as 2022.
When he met lawyers affiliated to the NDC whilst in opposition, Mr. Mahama pledged to cleanse the Judiciary of elements who did not pander to the whims and caprices of the NDC and to also balance the Bench.
I hold the firm belief that Mr. Mahama has read Denis M’Passou’s literary piece, ‘Murder in the Interest of the Church’. Denis M’Passou’s literary piece, ‘Murder in the interest of the church’ details the principal character going to great lengths to reach the summit of his hopes and that would lead him to commit murder in order to have his dreams materialized.
Mr. Mahama’s quest to satisfy the insatiable appetite of Baffoe-Bonnie led him to think up ways to remove whoever would be in place as Chief Justice. Trust me, whoever would have been the CJ today would have suffered the same fate Gertrude Torkornoo is experiencing.
At all costs, Baffoe-Bonnie must be CJ, and it doesn’t matter whether charges brought against the CJ meet the threshold of prima facie or not as long as he would have a Council of State that would yield to his desires.
In effect, Gertrude Torkornoo hasn’t committed any crimes or offenses warranting her removal. She is being ‘murdered’ by John Mahama in the interest of Paul Baffoe-Bonnie who believes to make Heaven, he must ascend the throne of the Chief Justice of the Republic.
The Judiciary has always been a target of the NDC. The NDC hates the Judiciary with venom. It would appear the umbilical cords that linked these people to their mothers had ‘hatred’ to the Judiciary boldly written on them.
May Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s rise to stardom be short-lived by the Ghana Bar Association using the very constitution that he and John Mahama seek to disregard in this judicial coup d’état they have staged.
