The Council of State, has voted to suspend Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo as Chief Justice, Whispers Media Network can state on authority.
Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, who was vehemently opposed to the decision to suspend the Chief Justice, had to abstain from the voting, Whispers Media Network has learned.
It is instructive to note that the Chief Justice was not given any opportunity to defend herself prior to this voting process.
Instead of the Council of State playing its role in advising the government against such actions, they have rather taken the decision to get the Chief Justice removed.
WMN can also state categorically that the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, will, on Tuesday, announce the one who will take over as acting CJ for a committee to look into the issues to be constituted.
The decision to remove the Chief Justice was mooted long before the NDC came to power in the 2024 elections.
Petitions many have deemed to be frivolous and weak were sponsored by the Mahama government and same submitted to the Council of State.
The Council of State has affirmed its rubber stamp nature as it has failed to look at the merits of the petitions by prioritizing politics above other issues.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is to sit on the injunction application against the removal of the Chief Justice of filed by Vincent Ekow Assafuah on 6th May, 2025.
