Okatakyie Afrifa’s Arrest an Affirmation of Mahama’s Continued Efforts to Gag Voices of Dissent

Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has once again, caused for the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa of ‘For the Records Show.’

Another Rambo-styled arrest of the ace journalist was pulled out this afternoon by the Cyber Security Department of the Ghana Police Service.

Information available to Whispers Media Network indicates that the arrest was based on a flimsy allegation brought against him by a person who failed to show up to substantiate the allegations.

WMN is reliably informed that this allegation came up in 2017 by a lady who later clarified the issues and indicated that it was out of the trauma she was going through as a result of their breakup.

Functionaries of the Mahama-led government, unable to contain Afrifa, have come up with this allegation citing the same 2017 lady.

It can be recalled that Mahama’s lead campaigner on television and social media, Kevin Ekow Taylor, in one of his shows, mentioned this matter and vowed that he would show Okatakyie where power lies.

What many Ghanaians find unacceptable and nauseating are the dishonesty, hypocrisy, double standards and selectivity being displayed by this government as far as people they arrest are concerned.

Kevin Taylor has insulted chiefs, kings, politicians, businessmen, etc and have had the courts issuing bench warrants for his arrest.

Interestingly, the same administration that has arrested Okatakyie twice for no justifiable reasons gave protection to Kevin Taylor when he came to Ghana a few weeks ago.

The Mahama government gave Kevin Taylor security escort, vehicles filled with police and military personnel protecting him. Okatakyie just gets arrested when he hasn’t done anything.

The international community should call this despotic government to order. Press freedom is being undermined. Media personalities who do not speak the language of the government are harassed by operatives of the Mahama government.

Ghana’s democracy has travelled way back into time. People are afraid to express themselves freely because of the fear of being arrested and detained.

WMN.
