Mahama changes Presidency’s name from Jubilee House back to Flagstaff House

President John Dramani Mahama has, once again, changed the name of the Presidency from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, Whispers Media Network has learned.

A letter signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and Minister in charge of Government Communications, announcing new appointments for the Ghana Armed Forces indicated that the President met the outgoing officers at the Flagstaff House.

The communiqué dated March 17, 2025, appointing new service chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces indicated part read; ‘The President this afternoon met with the outgoing Service Chiefs, led by the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at the Flagstaff House.

Whispers Media Network picked snippets of information about the intended change of the name of the Presidency from the Jubilee House to the Flagstaff House a month after President Mahama was sworn into office.

It can be recalled that in 2009 when the Mills/Mahama administration was sworn into office, the name Jubilee House was changed quickly to Flagstaff House, much to the displeasure of many Ghanaians.

This was as a result of the stiff opposition the then opposition NDC exhibited towards the construction of the edifice by then President John Agyekum Kufuor. The opposition then had vowed to use the place for poultry farming.

The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government restored the Jubilee House name originally given to the place by the John Agyekum Kufuor administration from the colonial Flagstaff House given to it by the Mills/Mahama administration.

The latest name change, though subtle, would soon be embossed in front of the seat of the Government of the Republic of Ghana as preparations toward same are far advanced.
